After years of hard work by many people the dream of the new K-12 Vail Academy and High School is about to become reality at UA Science and Technology Park. Preliminary site work began on November 30.
The new name was formally adopted November 10th by the Vail School District Governing Board. Enrollment packets are available at our school or by clicking here. For more information contact Mr. Barger at 520-879-1904.

How to pay for college costs
College.gov is a Web site from the U.S. Department of Education
created to engage, inform, and inspire students to pursue
education beyond high school. Check out http://www.college.gov to learn why you should go to college, what you can do to prepare, and how to pay for college costs.
Seniors- October is the month to continue working on your college applications and scholarships. Go to www.fafsa.ed.gov to secure a pin number. Everyone going on to post secondary education should file a FAFSA.
A group of VHS students have made the news with their entry in a conservation-minded doghouse building competition. KVOA news covered the story and the text is available at the link below:

Dear Parents,
The District Health Office is preparing for the influenza/H1N1 season. And they need your help in order to accomplish this. If your child is sick, please include a list of symptoms when you call the attendance office at 879-1903.
Examples: fever of greater than 100º F, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue, diarrhea or vomiting.
Thank you so much for helping us.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends 4 main ways you and your family may keep from getting sick with the flu at school and at home:
1. Practice good hand hygiene by washing your hands often with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
2. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your elbow or shoulder - not into your hands.
3. Stay home if you or your child is sick for at least 24 hours after there is no longer a fever or signs of a fever (without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
Keeping sick students at home means that they keep their viruses to themselves rather than sharing them with others.
4. Get your family vaccinated for seasonal flu and 2009 H1Ni flu when vaccines are available.
The Vail School District has a Safe Schools Hotline. If you or your child would like to report an activity that could threaten the safety of our students, you can leave an anonymous message at 879-1111. Of course you can still call the individual schools directly, but should you wish your report to be anonymous the Hotline is available.
Most libraries, online and by phone offer homework help and free drop-in tutoring for grades K-12. For further information click www.library.pima.gov/homeworkhelp.

For those anticipating a December graduation date:

Only those few students who have been approved by the Principal and counselor for a December graduation will be able to participate in this accelerated senior project.
